Mr. Godfrey began training in Taekwondo during the Fall of 1993 at the age of 13. He left Midwest Martial Arts in 1994 at the rank of high red belt.
In 1996, he began training in Arnis but was unable to continue due to involvement in high school sports.
During the Summer of 1999, Mr. Godfrey returned to Midwest Martial Arts as a green belt in Taekwondo. It was at this time he began his training in Hapkido and continued in Arnis.
By the Fall of 2001, Mr. Godfrey achieved the rank of 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, 1st Degree Black Belt in Hapkido and 1st Degree Black Belt in Arnis.
Mr. Godfrey was an assistant instructor at Midwest Martial Arts from 2000 to 2001.
In 2005 Mr. Godfrey returned to Cedar Rapids and joined Cedar Valley Defensive Arts as an instructor after completing college at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
In 2006 Mr Godfrey was sent by his unit to level 1, 2 and 3 instructors' program for the Army's combatives system (MAC). He currently assists in certifying National Guard Soldiers in becoming level 1 instructors for the state of Iowa.
